About the Book
An astonishing, dreamlike debut, Lázár is a gothic, intergenerational family saga inspired by Nelio Biedermann’s own family history.
Set at the turn of the 20th century, the novel begins with the birth of Lajos von Lázár, a child whose uncanny presence unsettles his aristocratic Hungarian family from the very start. As secrets, desires, and strange, otherworldly forces ripple through generations, the family rises and falls against the sweeping backdrop of war and revolution.
At once haunting and expansive, Lázár traces the fragile line between fate and choice, capturing the history of a nation through the lives of one extraordinary family.
